What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?
A typical day for me is really varied, which is one of the things I love about my role. I’m often talking with our customers and partners, ensuring that they are getting the best service from us, or working with the team on our product and designing new features, or I might be thinking about the next change we need to make to improve our offerings and progress as a business. No two days are the same!
What is on your wish list for your next five years here?
We’ve made enormous strides as a company (even during the pandemic and in the current economic climate!) and I believe that Intoware has exciting times ahead! We want to continue to develop our offering to drive true value for our customers and continue to hear the amazing stories our customers tell us about their productivity gains, safety improvements, efficiency gains and more. Our customers are at the centre of everything that we do.
What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?
I think the biggest skill needed is being able to maintain a high-level view of the company and what we need to do (strategic thinking), combined with being able to really get into the details and execute well (tactical thinking). In smaller businesses you wear a lot of hats (something I really enjoy), so organisational skills are also critical.
What do you like most about your job?
I really like seeing the results that our customers get by using our platform. It’s nice working on a product that solves real world problems. I also really enjoy working with our amazing team. We have a really open culture at Intoware, and the team helps us to make the product and our service to our customers better every day, and you won’t find a more committed group of people.
What’s your most memorable facepalm moment?
I’m an avid golfer, and about a year ago I was playing at Bakewell Golf Club in the Peak District. The last hole is a steep downhill par 3 onto a green that sits right in front of the clubhouse. It was a hot sunny day, so there were people sitting on the terrace having a beer or two, watching people finish the final hole. I managed to pull my tee shot to the left, directly at the clubhouse! It bounced straight off the clubhouse roof, over the people enjoying their beer, and ended up just off the green (luckily!). I managed to chip it close and finished with a par, to sarcastic claps from the clubhouse!
We have a tradition of having a joke of the week during our team catch up. In honour of this can you give us your favourite joke?
One from the Edinburgh Fringe a few years ago: “My dad has suggested that I register for a donor card. He’s a man after my own heart”
What’s your favourite line from a film?
“What” ain’t no country I’ve ever heard of. They speak English in What?! (Pulp Fiction)
Finally, who would you like to highlight from the next issue’s “Meet The Team” segment?
I will nominate the wonderful Brad Flook!
